Status Update

Change is about the only constant.  It’s never more true in management of a website.  For www.Recreationalland.com we are always trying to balance style with a great user experience.  For us it means ease of navigation and providing the most information possible without becoming overwhelming.

Off and on over the years we’ve started and stopped the blog and at one point about six months ago had the idea of moving the whole site over to WordPress.  But that lead to more problems than it’s worth.  Moving the property pages over to WordPress meant loosing some of the features we like, like the maps we have on the bottom of the page.  This in our opinion just wasn’t worth it.  We believe the maps, such as the forest, survey and aerial provide useful information to those interested in the properties we feature on the website.  So for now at least – until the next brilliant idea strikes – our website will be a combination of static and dynamic.

Parcel 14, Section 5 – 24.56 acres with Creek

Parcel 14, Section 5

Not often do you find a very private property with the beauty of these 24.56 acres with Edwards Creek flowing through the west side of the property. The snowcapped Cascade, and Canadian Rocky Mountain view to the west is captivating to say the least. The views to the south and east of the Okanogan National Forest is truly Pristine; to the northeast you will be viewing Mt Annie which is 6002 feet of majestic beauty for you and your family to hike or horse back ride, just a short distance away. The views alone will make you think you are in a movie theater watching the sound of music awaiting Julie Andrews to come out signing.

I don’t believe I have seen a property that has the wildflowers of every color of the rainbow blooming right before your eyes awaiting you to pick a few for your table. The soils are excellent for as large a garden as one will ever want, with southern exposure and wonderful 300 days of sunshine, what more could you want.

If you ever thought of having a horse or two, and would like to ride off into the most beautiful trail riding from your property, no trailer needed, you have found your Shangri-La. This property is just minutes away from seven alpine fishing lakes where you can fish for a lifetime; two are open year-round for your convenience. Aeneas Valley where Parcel 14 is located will make you feel you have traveled to Yellowstone National Park. Aeneas Valley will offer you more in year-round recreation than any other State or National Park I know of.

The property has septic today ready to hook up, along with underground phone and underground power is nearby. There are just enough Ponderosa pines to give you the feeling of trees, but not enough to damage your 360-degree view. Parcel 14 has lots of Aspen and Cottonwoods along the creek on the property for that fall color to match the wildflowers in the spring and summer.

The best laid plans

Backup Frequently!

The best laid plans can go out the window in a heartbeat.  Yesterday was nearly a disaster.  Jim was working on his computer and stepped away for a bite of lunch with Debra.  When he came back he found the computer off.  Turning it on all sorts of bizarre stuff began to happen.  The desktop background was black and there were popup windows telling him all sorts of stuff.

Jim called me almost immediately.  Popping over to the office it became clear that there was a problem.  The goal was not only to get Jim’s computer operational, but also to minimize the loss of data.  The problem was, there was no backup if all data was lost.  Worse still the anti-virus/firewall program was not enabled.  Yes, the phrase, “oh crap!” did spring to mind. Fortunately the files for the accounting program had been backuped up to an online location the day before.

Jim’s computer is an HP TouchSmart.  It’s an all in one computer.  One of the things I like about it is there is a partition on the hard drive that will enable restoration.  The only question I had was when was the last restore point set.  I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I learned the restore point was the day before, Tuesday, October 2nd.

Once restoration was completed I dealt with the anti-virus/firewall program and made sure it was up to date and running.  Then it came time to get rid of any of the garbage that may have opened the door to whatever attacked the machine.  I ran Ccleaner and followed up with a defrag.  By the time I left it was fairly back to normal.  Whatever attacked Jim’s computer caused some data loss.  Fortunately the files that were missing were also the ones backed up to an online location.

If you haven’t backed up your computer recently, now would be a very good time to do so.

Starting Again

Re-Think GoDaddy.com. 3 months of Economy Hosting for $1.99/mo.If you’ve visited our site you’ve probably seen our blog, or at least a version of it.  A couple of months ago we moved our site.  We are now hosted on GoDaddy.  The move has been one of the best decisions we’ve made.  Uptime has been great, even with the glitch almost a month ago.

One of my favorite features about GoDaddy is getting a live person nearly everytime I call.  Often it’s just brainstorming an idea or finding out how on GoDaddy I can make something happen.  Best of all GoDaddy makes sure applications like WordPress can be updated easily and effortlessly.  Our other hosting service was interesting and some of the basic things like updating WordPress or having the latest PHP installed was an extra.

If you are looking for a place to host your website, give GoDaddy a call; find out what they can do for you.
